In the framework of the European project “F.A.M.E. ROAD” in which the Municipality of Aigialeia participates as a partner, an awareness raising campaign on sustainable tourism was held on Friday 1 July 2022, in the Multicenter Conference Center of Aigio.
The event was welcomed by the Deputy Mayor of Aigialeia Development Mr. Christopoulos and coordinated by Mrs. Chrysoula Christia. The Deputy Mayor of Aigialeia Tourism Mr. Stratos Vardakis made a brief introduction on sustainable tourism, while Mr. Lavrentis Vassiliadis from the Region of Western Greece spoke about sustainable tourism development policies in the Region and Mrs. Georgia Ivou from the Ministry of Culture presented the Cultural Route that is being developed by the Ministry.
Moreover, Mrs. Koukoulommati, from the Regional Development Fund of the Region of Western Greece, presented the Mediterranean cycling route that passes through the region and was created in the terms of the European project Medcycletour, while Mr. Kokkinos and Mrs. Sarantis from the University of Patras presented the contribution of the Inherit and Decost projects, respectively, in sustainable tourism.
The round of speeches was completed by: Mrs. Lambropoulou from Achaia Development SA, Mrs. Koumoutsou from the Management Body of Helmos-Vouraikos, Mr. Argyros, Deputy Mayor of Tourism of the Municipality of Preveza, Mrs. Skorda, strategic development and communication advisor, journalist Mr. Balis and Mrs. Soldatou from the Oinoxeneia Quality Network.
The purpose of the conference was to inform the local community about green and blue tourism, but also about the ways in which sustainable tourism development can be achieved in the region.
In the evening of the same day, in the courtyard of the Multicenter Conference Center, there was a performance of the Shadow Theater entitled “Karagiozis’ vacation in Aigialeia”.
It is noted that the European project “F.A.M.E. ROAD ”- Food Art Movement Energy – The Road to Country Experience is a cross-border cooperation program which is based on the preservation and promotion of local identity through four pillars, the so-called F.A.M.E. (Food, Art, Movement, Energy) ie Local Agri-Food Products – Art and Culture – Sustainable Mobility – Green Energy and aims at the tourist development of the region of Aigialeia and its promotion as a tourist destination through an integrated and sustainable approach.
