The 3rd meeting “The Road to Small Villages” was organized with great success by the INTERREG GR– IT Project: FAME ROAD, in the village of Ampelokipi in Aigialeia on 17 September 2022.
Citizens from many villages of Aigialeia participated, as well as their presidents and local associations, either online or in person. Furthermore, experts in the different pillars of the project, namely F(ood) – A(rt)- M(ovement)- E(nergy), actively contributed in the discussion.
The Deputy Mayor of Tourism Mr. Stratos Vardakis and the General Secretary Mr. Giorgos Roussos of the Municipality of Aigialeia participated and rewarded the citizens’ initiative.
All the citizens submitted their opinions and proposals, aiming at the development and well-being of each of the 73 small villages of the Municipality.
The voices of the villagers where finally public: the discussion concerned the local culture and their agricultural products and what infrastructure they have or need, to host visitors all year round, as well as how they will develop the villages to be promoted as destination widely.
Their final goal? The small villages become widely known as an alternative destination, as a “United we are Strong” (= η ισχύς εν τη ενώσει).
Of course, the idea is maturing and they plan to proceed with managing and organizing the steps horizontally.
The productive discussion didn’t come to the end right after the event, though. A rich dinner followed at the “Arfara” tavern in the village square, where the opportunity was given to consolidate the relations and reach common understanding.
Participants from other regions, who were informed on this venture also expressed their interest in expanding FAME Road at their own villages.
ERFC, who was the organizing partner of the event under FAME Road project, welcomes your suggestions/ideas/reflection at fameroadproject@gmail.com.
