5th Dissemination event of Interreg FAME Road: 1st Brevet 200 ”Βοστίτσα Το Μπαλκόνι του Κορινθιακού” of Aigio
A Non-Competitive Bicycle Marathon within Time Limits of 200km took place on 4th September 2021 at Aigio.It was a long cycling route which had the characteristics of endurance, trial, tourist and touring character as well as the promotion of massive sports.
25 cyclists took part out of the 58 who had declared their participation (due to the announcement of the imposition of extraordinary restrictive measures in Achaia against covid).The start was given at 8 p.m. from the park of Ypsila Alonia and the cyclists had to travel the following route with a time limit of 13.5 hours and on the condition that the control points of the route have passed within a time limit.
Of the 25 athletes who took part, 20 finished within the time limit. Four athletes left due to fatigue and one due to injury from falling to 20 km before termination on the train tracks just before Platanos beach.
All the participants were impressed by the amazing route and the uniqueness of the landscapes of the area.
The detailed planning of the route, the selection of the control points, the marking of the dangerous points on the road, the food at the finish, with the excellent souvlaki, the wonderful local white wine and the delicious deserts, plus the gift package given with the local products of the area (wine, raisins, rose sugar, soft drinks and olives) to each cyclist.
The route was fully covered with photos and video via drones and the escort of the 7 motorcyclists who with their presence from the start until the finish helped cyclists to feel the necessary safety on the road.Finally, a huge thank to the inspirer of the brevet Λοΐζος Τσολάκης (Tsolakis Loizos), the Ποδηλάτες Μεγάλων Αποστάσεων – Greek Randonneurs, to all the volunteers, the local companies suppoted the event, to Δημοτική Κοινωφελής Επιχείρηση Αιγιάλειας, to Interreg V-A Greece-Italy
